The past few days I have been pretty busy, with early (and long) training classes, and going to the parks in the little free time I have! But today was my first shift in costume at Liberty Tree!
Hear Ye, Hear Ye!! Let it be known, we are now seating the BORTLE family from the territory of IOWA!
I had to memorize this spiel, and seat tables today! I really enjoyed learning the history behind the restaurant and really acting the part. There are 6 dining rooms, each named after someone significant, such as Thomas Jefferson, Paul Revere, John Paul Jones, Betsy Ross, George and Martha Washington, and Benjamin Franklin. When we seat each family, we have to share a fact about the room they are sitting in. For example, You are seated in the Betsy Ross room. Betsy Ross was rumored to be the seamstress of the first American Flag!! Its interesting to learn fun facts about some historical and very important people, and the guests also seemed to enjoy it.
I learned some more fun facts about the parks, and I think I am an expert of the Liberty Square area. I was definitely quizzed on some frequently asked questions today, and I think I could direct guests pretty efficiently after Day 1! We took a quick tour of the area, and looked in some of the shops we have, like Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe and the new haunted mansion gift shop. I was also asked if a Spanish speaking woman could take a photo with me... strange, but I guess I do have do a pretty cool costume! I didn't have my name tag on in this picture, but on my name tag there is a ribbon attached that says "Earning my Ears." This basically means that I am being trained, and may not know as much as some of the other cast members around! Next Tuesday I have my training assessment, and when I pass that, I will have earned my ears! WEE!
For dinner, Liberty Tree Tavern serves a family style meal very similar to what you would eat on Thanksgiving. Tomorrow we get to try all of the food.... and I can't wait!
I worked from 1:45-10pm today, which was a long enough shift for me. I was able to catch a bus back to Chatham with one of my new friends, so I didn't have to ride by myself, which was very nice! Tomorrow I am schedule at 12:15-8:30. I have the same trainer, but I will be learning a different position, most likely the greeter!
These first few days of training are hard, but I know I'll pick up on it soon. Wish me luck!!!
